New Thinking… New Opportunities
The University of Wolverhampton, the Academy’s lead education partner is at the forefront of new thinking in teaching and learning methods and their involvement will open up a wide range of opportunities for the Academy.
Innovative Curriculum
Sir Geoff Hampton, Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University, together with a highly professional team from the Centre of Excellence in learning and teaching, are leading the development of an innovative curriculum. Core subjects as required by the National Curriculum will be taught at stages 3 and 4 and a wide range of additional options will be available for GCSE and GNVQ qualifications.
New Opportunities
The Academy will specialise in Design and Enterprise. These subjects will prepare students for job and career opportunities in today’s world. The Centre for Young Designers will be an integral part of the Academy and will forge links with industry, commerce and the arts. It will develop the students’ skills in a wide range of technology subjects including graphic design, visual arts, engineering and vocational studies.
Enterprise Focus
What skills will be needed in 10 to 15 years time as technology changes the way people work?
As the global economy leads traditional manufacturing to move to other countries, so new skills will be required for the new opportunities created. The flexibility of using technology to work from home will mean more people will be self-employed. Business skills will help people to facilitate this and also enable many to set up their own businesses.
The Enterprise education specialism of the Academy will provide a curriculum to enable young people to obtain business based qualifications.
The importance of core subjects such as English and Maths will also be appreciated alongside Enterprise learning. Creating effective business letters and brochures and developing and presenting business plans will be skills to be learned and put into practice. Courses will have a high project based content and for the less academic will provide an alternative to traditional classroom based learning and encourage initiative.
