Transforming Education

Education in Sandwell will be the necessary catalyst to bring about lasting change in our multicultural, multi-faith communities. The Council seeks to promote healthy, aspirational communities whose members understand the possibilities that their talents and the world can give them.

Secondary education in Sandwell seeks to prepare young people to participate in their communities by creating a network of self-managing, flexible, dynamic schools, working in partnerships which promote excellence and diversity. Schools are working to raise the aspirations and achievement of all young people in the Borough.

Academies will raise standards by drawing upon best practice and innovative teaching and learning methods and so promote the development of local neighbourhoods. Academy Sponsors are expected to be major stakeholders in Sandwell’s regeneration planning and support the delivery of the Sandwell Plan’s 2020 vision for the Borough.

The Council has secured agreement with the University of Wolverhampton to be its Lead Education Partner in developing Academies and all secondary schools as part of the Building Schools for the Future Programme. The University will work with Academy Sponsors to develop Academies that are innovative and capable of supporting all students to achieve at their highest level. The University will draw on its worldwide knowledge of cutting edge schools and in this way support a World Class Learning Community development in Sandwell.
