COVID-19 Vaccinations

We are pleased to confirm that COVID-19 Vaccinations will be administered at the Academy on Friday 19th November for students aged 12 years and over and for whom parental consent has been obtained using the eConsent form. If you have not provided consent for your child, but wish to do so now, the eConsent form is available here and must be completed by Tuesday 16th November at the latest. If you have previously consented for your child, but now wish to withdraw consent then please contact Vaccination UK using the details on the eConsent form; the Academy cannot manage consent on your behalf. If you previously provided consent, but your child has received the vaccine since then, you do not need to do anything as this will be identified by the vaccination team. We appreciate that students in Year 11 have mock examinations at this time. Therefore, the vaccination can be offered between examinations, or an appointment can be made for the vaccination at a more convenient time at a vaccination centre here. Please note that students under 16 years of age must have a parent with them if attending a vaccination centre. Vaccinations will be carried out by the NHS Immunisation Team. If you have any questions, please use the contact details for Vaccination UK on the bottom of the eConsent form. Please do not contact the Academy, as we are simply a venue in this process, our staff will be unable to answer your questions. The government have...

Year 11 Mock Examinations

This is a quick update to keep parents/carers of Year 11 students informed about mock exams. The following mocks will take place centrally, starting next week:

Sixth Form Open Evening

Choosing destinations for study after Year 11 can sometimes be a confusing and difficult course to navigate. We offer an extremely high quality education for students at Q3 Academy Great Barr Sixth Form. Therefore, we are delighted to invite our Year 11 students and their parents/carers to the Q3 Academy Sixth Form Open Evening taking place on Monday 15th November 2021 at the time booked when making your reservation here (entrance by pre-booked ticket only). This is a fantastic opportunity to see what our Sixth Form can offer your child.

RSHE Information Evening

As you may be aware, the new statuary framework for RSHE is now in place across all schools and academies in England. In order to support your understanding of what is delivered in each Year Group, I am pleased to be able to invite you to our optional information evening on Monday 8th November 2021.

Immunisations

We have been notified by Vaccination UK that owing to the high uptake of the flu immunisation, not all students were able to be seen today. Therefore, they will return to the Academy on Thursday 6th January to administer the immunisation to the remaining students. If you have any questions about this or any of the immunisation programmes, please contact Vaccination UK directly here.

COVID-19 Update

We strongly encourage all of our students to continue regular COVID-19 testing, especially before returning to the Academy from the half-term break. Please see Nadhim Zahawi’s tweet of encouragement here.

KS3 Groups

We look forward to welcoming students back to the Academy, and hope that they’ve had a well-deserved, restful break. As you’ll be aware, we follow a mixed-middle approach rather than using ability sets at KS3. This means that students are instead grouped with peers who have similar strengths and areas for development, allowing our staff to better tailor learning to each child’s needs.

Immunisations

Last month we shared details of the flu immunisation offered for free to all students. Students for whom a completed consent form has been returned will receive their immunisation on Tuesday 2nd November (a later catch-up date will be offered if the immunisation team are unable to process all students). If you have any questions about this process or the immunisation, please contact Vaccination UK directly here. We have yet to receive the date for in-Academy COVID-19 vaccinations, full details of this process and the eConsent form have been shared here.

Tovni Lacer Kicker Shoes

The Tovni Lacer brand of Kickers shoes, with the trainer-style lace are not allowed to be worn as Business Dress in the Academy. The shoe has been designed to be ‘sneaker silhouette’ according to the Kickers branding, and we feel it is not an appropriate shoe for wearing in the Academy.
